Filipinos are one of the most talented, hardworking, hospitable, generous, and resilient people in the world.  Despite all the various challenges that they face, they still manage to smile and look at the brighter side of life.  It’s only fair to say that Filipinos can survive whatever life throws at them.  

As a Filipino myself, I know how tough living in this country can be.  There are times that I feel frustrated, discouraged, and uninspired because after all I am only human.  So, I look for inspirational stories of Filipinos who have become successful in their chosen fields.  I was pleasantly surprised to discover that there are numerous Filipinos out there who not only made a name for themselves, but also gave honor to the Philippines.  Let me present to you a list of the 10 most successful Filipinos in my opinion:

  1. Lea Salonga

An internationally acclaimed singer-actress, Lea Salonga is known for her exceptional talent not only on Broadway but also in West End.  She gained widespread fame for her role as Kim in the musical “Miss Saigon,” for which she won a Tony Award.  Her voice was also featured in Disney films such as Aladdin and Mulan.  Lea’s powerful voice and captivating performances have earned her a dedicated global fan base.  

  1. Fernando Amorsolo

Renowned as a National Artist of the Philippines,  Fernando  Amorsolo was a highly esteemed painter known for his exceptional contributions to Philippine art.  His mastery of capturing the beauty of the Filipino countryside and its people through his vibrant and evocative paintings earned him the title “The Grand Old Man of Philippine Art.”  His depictions of rural scenes, landscapes, and portraits have become iconic representations of the Philippines’ cultural heritage.  As an artist, he also played a pivotal role in shaping the visual identity of the nation during the early 20th century.  His art not only celebrated the country’s natural beauty but also conveyed the essence of Filipino values and way of life.

Considered one of the greatest pool players in history, Efren Reyes has earned numerous titles and accolades in the world of billiards. His extraordinary skills and artistry on the pool table have made him a source of national pride in the Philippines.

A trailblazer in the tech industry, Diosdado Banatao is an entrepreneur, engineer, and philanthropist. He is known for his significant contributions to the development of microchips and graphics accelerator chips, laying the foundation for advancements in computer technology.

The national hero, Jose Rizal, is considered one of the iconic figures in Philippine history.  Aside from being a national hero, Rizal was a polymath, writer, and advocate for social reforms during the Spanish colonial period.
